The value which is alpha or is technically a threshold for significance of statistics is arbitrary and which value you go with depends upon the fact which field you are studying.
It happens quiet often and in most cases, researchers tend to use an alpha of 0.05, which means there is less then 5% chance that data which is being tested could have occurred below the null hypothesis.
